Silkscreening CMYK by hand is basically a very elaborate way of asking for trouble: registration needs to be spot-on, and any variety in the pressure you apply will result in differences in the colour balance. Nevertheless, i thought i’d give it a bash on my own vacuum press (the one’s i’ve done before were all on the Michaelis Art School’s very nice press) for this new Buckfever Underground poster.

Edition is 54, 4 colours on 250 gsm Munken Pure (consider it official, my ageing back can’t handle big editions anymore).

Righto, this is the last poster i’ve printed up for the Oppikoppi printslam, a stunning A2, 3 colour print by Merwe Marchand le Roux.

That’s the last print i’ll be doing for a while, as i”ll be away for the next two weeks; if you’re going to Oppikoppi, go say hi to these posters, otherwise, if you’re in Cape town, pop over to the Am i Collective Garage on Sunday for this poster exhibition which promises to be incredible as well.

On Sunday, poster designer Nothief came round to my house to print this beautifully elegant Wrestlerish poster. It’s in A3 size, 4 colours on 250gsm Munken Pure, and limited to an edition of 30. Decoder Ring Design Concern Art Print Series

One of the most amazing things i’ve seen recently is this series of Art Prints from The Decoder Ring Design Concern. How it works is that they invite artists into their printing studio for a week, over which they work together on a crazily intensive art print. Artists include Dalek (whose contribution is pictured above), Aesthetic Apparatus, Jay Ryan, Burlesque of North America, Diana Sudyka, Tara McPherson; quite prominent figures indeed. And the prints that come out of this are just so unbelievably gorgeous. Even nicer is the thorough documentation of the process, that TDRDC allow you to view on the gallery. This is pretty much any print enthusiast’s wet dream: the goalposts have officially been shifted.

These posters will go on sale on the 5th of October (when the gigs have taken place, and i’m also back from a journey).

This is the trailer for a new film about the USA poster artist community which looks very interesting indeed. I will make a point of getting hold of a copy of this film and maybe organise a little screening if anyone would be interested.
